Import from BibTeX, Reference Manager and EndNote. Well, the paper probably isn't the best example of what I'm looking for.
I don't think it's a terrible mark against Docear, though, because if a word or phrase didn't appear in any of my highlights, annotations, summary, or any assigned attributes. Some people have suggested it on the forum and they seem open to adding the feature, but there's nothing for now.

The biggest thing some other ref management software has and Docear doesn't is full text pdf search. I don't know everything Mendeley and Zotero can do, so maybe their tags or whatever else they use is comparable. And filtering preserves the organization, so I can see where everything came from. It's really easy to filter a huge map too if you need to search for anything. JabRef creates an entry but doesnt populate it when I try to import it. You can then copy the output and add it to your Docear reference. I can quickly grab existing notes and work off of a new mind map for papers, then when it comes time to revise it, I'm never (well almost never) left wondering what I had been trying to say or what connections I had been trying to make because I can see how my thought process to get there was organized in my notes. It came up with Bibtex data, I assume from the web. If set, the module will clean up BibTeX import data through the bib2xml xml2bib. I can't say much about switching over, but I can say that I found taking a little bit of time to get used to Docear was worth it. I never used any other tools, but actively organize everything for myself in Docear and it is wonderful.
